"It would be ideal if 'political favor' could be eradicated with a single announcement, statement, or series of declarations," government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday to ERTnews, commenting on the measures announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

He emphasized, however, that a distinction must be made between someone requesting something irregular, illegal, or outside the legal framework, and a Member of Parliament acting on behalf of a citizen to advance a legitimate complaint. "These two cases should not be treated as the same," he noted.

"How do you curb these bad practices that justifiably anger society?" he asked, outlining several measures: first, through the digitalization of the state; second, by doubling ICU capacity in hospitals, thereby eliminating or minimizing the need for personal interventions to secure a bed; third, via digital notification; and fourth, in the case of OPEKEPE, by integrating it into the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

He added that reducing opportunities for such interventions requires more policies of this type, many of which have already been implemented by the Mitsotakis government. He also stressed that society demands policies, courage, and substantive reforms.
